[caseg frwyn:] In parts of North Wales the children had discovered a simple and ingenious method of enjoying the pleasures of sliding and tobogganing all the year round, without the need of snow. They made what they called a caseg frwyn, that is, a sheaf of long rushes which they tightly tied together towards the top. Then, sitting well back on the sheaf (the mare) and holding the top part well up between their legs, they let go down a steep side.
